CLINICIANS
Christina is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist and has been living in New Orleans, since completing graduate school at Boston College. Her work is assisting patients with post traumatic stress disorder and trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, grief and loss, LBGT issues, adjustment and life transitions, domestic violence & family conflict, behavioral issues, and treatment of substance abuse and dual diagnosis disorders. This practice works from a strengths-based model and client centered approach towards treatment, utilizing cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to treatment. Christina is also available to provide supervision for MSWs working towards their licensure.
The counseling process is one based on mutual trust and respect. In a joint effort, the patient and counselor, work to develop and build a relationship founded on trust and respect, while exploring and defining the issues which led the patient to seek therapy. Together, we'll identify exceptions to these issues, including strengths, coping skills and abilities, so you can learn to further develop and implement healthy solutions to the identified issues, identify goals and develop concrete steps for meeting those goals, and identify usable strategies to continue to meet and build upon these goals. My professional experience has been in treating intersections of psychological, emotional and mental health issues, including addiction treatment/substance abuse and dual diagnoses, including the areas of Depression, Bipolar/Mood Disorders, Addiction and Substance Abuse, LGBT, Trauma/PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Domestic Violence & Family Conflict, Grief and Loss, Crisis and Stress Management, and Life Transitions. I provide adult & adolescent individual psychotherapy, couples & family counseling. I studied multiple therapies, including but not limited to, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal theories. Yet each patient requires an individualized approach. I am privileged to assist and support patients in their journey towards a better quality of life. The safety and intimacy of the therapeutic relationship has the ability to foster profound changes in a person’s well being. Psychotherapy can lead to a deeper growth, including the development of a more authentic sense of self, release from longstanding maladaptive behaviors, and a more heightened level of insight.

THEORETICAL ORIENTATIONS
Throughout my trainings & education, I studied multiple therapies, including Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Brief Solution-Focused, Person-Centered/Humanistic and Interpersonal theories. These therapeutic and treatment approaches which I believe best serve clients to help patients reach optimal health. I believe each individual requires an individualized approach and depending on their personal issues, therapeutic needs and where each individual is in their own journey, helps determine which approach(s) would be most beneficial. By providing the guidance and support around each individual's own process towards a better quality of life, and through the safety and intimacy of the therapeutic relationship, I believe patients can foster profound changes in their own well being and develop a deeper growth and personal insight. The following are some guides for the theories and treatment intervention techniques utilized throughout psychotherapy in this practice: Psychodynamic Approach to Treatment: This is an insight-oriented style of therapy and incorporates this style according to a patient’s therapeutic needs. This therapy style endeavors to help you develop insight into their unconscious feelings. Psychodynamic therapy recognizes that people can benefit from exploring early life experiences and past memories and how defense mechanisms such as denial, repression and rationalization can not only aid as coping mechanisms to times of distress but how they can also keep a person stuck in maladaptive ways of being. This approach works with the patient to raise their overall sense of awareness and develop more insight into how their unconscious thoughts and feelings are contributing to any sources of distress they are feeling in their life today, i.e. feeling stuck and having trouble resolving past issues or trouble letting go. This is not an action oriented approach, but instead examines the past, looks to the possible roots of the trauma, i.e., seeks to make connections between the unconscious and the conscious life, enhance awareness and insight into unwanted patterns, etc. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This treatment approach explores & identifies those issues which are the source of distress and assists in guiding the patient in identifying their most pervasive issue, in which to address first. The therapist uses education and practical exercises to help patients see the often interrelated relationships between their own belief systems, emotions, thinking patterns, and behavioral patterns, while learning to recognize how unrealistic perceptions affect their actions and behaviors. Through this education and development of raised awareness and insight, the patient can begin to start making the cognitive and behavioral changes needed to relieve the distress they are experiencing. Brief Solutions-Focused Treatment: This treatment approach generally concentrates on solutions versus the symptoms or past issues which may have lead the patient to therapy initially. Brief Solutions-Focused therapy is a present oriented approach and encourages the patient to imagine and focus more readily on their desired future. It avoids focus on the reasons that are stuck and rooted in the past and is more goal & future oriented. Through collaboration with your therapist, the patient and therapist work on identifying clear steps to their desired goals. The therapist supports and assists the patient to quickly learn and practice the concrete skills, to utilize resources, and develop the abilities needed to achieve forward movement. Person-Centered / Humanistic Approach: These in general, are non-directive approaches based in the belief that all people have self-actualizing potential(s), and that we as humans are innately motivated to discover our personal abilities and reach our optimal potential. The therapist models unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and empathy while helping the patient to strive to be their best self. Free will is emphasized, as is identifying and expanding one’s positive traits and behaviors. |

Things to keep in mind when using insurance
Your specific health insurance policy determines the amounts of your copay, coinsurance and deductible. Diagnoses generally must meet medical necessity criteria to be covered. Common exclusions are couples counseling, career counseling and online/video/telephone therapy. If you are insured but do not wish to use your insurance, please notify us so we can provide you with a waiver of benefits and potentially reduce your fees. Please familiarize yourself with our HIPAA Privacy Policy for information on disclosures to your insurer. Insurance rates depend on the specifics of your insurance policy. An estimate of any insurance benefits for you will be determined and provided to you prior to your initial session. If the actual charge determined by the insurer after the claim is processed differs from the original estimate, we will credit/debit your account to reflect the difference. Please inquire with Provider about if/when she is able to begin accepting your insurance.
Insurance and Couples Counseling
While Couples Counseling is generally not covered, some policies do cover Family Therapy. One partner must first complete an Individual Consultation with a therapist to determine if a diagnosis meeting medical necessity criteria can be made in order to prescribe Family Therapy. If you do not want to participate in the individual diagnostic process, you must pay out-of-pocket, and claims will not be submitted for reimbursement. This policy is designed to ensure our practice abides by licensing board ethical guidelines as well as contractual obligations to insurance companies.
